Archaeological Monitoring in Hallstatt High Valley

The Natural History Museum Vienna supports the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management with its work to control the mountain stream in the high valley around Hallstatt.
After a winter break the work was resumed in June 2015. The archaeological monitoring is carried out by Mag. Hans Rudorfer, a longtime member of the excavation teams in Hallstatt. The expected archaeological investigations will also be conducted by him.

These measures carried out by the Forestry Section of the ministry aim to protect Hallstatt from serious damage caused by bad weather. In June 2013, the village had been suffered by massive flooding of Muehlbach creek.

In addition to the renovation of older protective buildings the three-year project also envisages the construction of new facilities. The planned works take utmost consideration for the precious archaeological evidences.
