The Upper Dome Hall on the first floor is the heart of the museum. Architects Gottfried Semper and Carl von Hasenauer wanted the Natural History
Museum’s to be a “palace of the natural sciences” – a vision which is particularly reflected in the Upper Dome Hall. The decorated
dome expresses a love of art and nature in equal measure, while the elegant atmosphere is reminiscent of late 19th and early
20th century Vienna.
