Re-designed Prehistory exhibit halls open on September 30, 2015, at the Natural History Museum Vienna. Old history – new design.

From 31 August 2015, scientists at the NHM Vienna will be able to use a special camera to observe shooting stars and fireballs in the sky above Vienna. The museum invites journalists to a media talk and photo opportunity on the roof of the NHM Vienna on 31 August 2015 at 10.30 am.

 

As part of the first ever ASTEROID DAY the NHM Vienna will be hosting a series of events on Tuesday 30 June starting at 14:00 aimed at raising awareness among the public about the important role asteroids play in helping us to understand the history of our universe.

From 2016 the Natural History Museum Vienna (NHM Vienna) is set to welcome a number of Fulbright Scholars. As one of Austria’s largest non-university research institutions, the NHM Vienna offers an exchange platform for international research and serves as a point of contact for institutional cooperation.

Two new exhibitions at NHM Vienna

The NHM Vienna and Salzwelten / Salinen Austria have joined forces to create a huge new “display case” for the oldest wooden staircase ever found in Europe, located in the salt mines of Hallstatt in Upper Austria, set to open in May 2015.

From March 2015 the Natural History Museum Vienna’s Digital Planetarium will host four new fulldome shows featuring state-of-the-art computer simulations taking visitors on epic journeys from erupting volcanoes through a hurricane to the vast expanses of space.
